What is uCreate?
uCreate is The University of Edinburgh's free community makerspace, loans and multimedia service. We are open to all students, staff and alumni of the University and offer advice, training, and support to help you make (almost) anything.
We have a range of users from complete beginners to the more advanced. All of our trainings are aimed at complete beginners so if you have always wanted to try making but didn't know how, come along to an induction and say hello.
uCreate makerspace is a space for users to gather and gain access to specialist equipment. In general, a makerspace is a place where people with shared interests, especially in computing or technology, can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment, and knowledge.
uCreate loans allows users to loan out specialist equipment, like 3D scanners and virtual reality headsets and use them outside of the makerspace.
uCreate multimedia gives users access to specialist software's, like the Adobe Suite.
See the video below for an overview of uCreate!
What can I do at uCreate?
uCreate is able to help with (almost) all of your making needs. The space and all of your making materials are provided totally free of charge.
Our users access uCreate in order to work on both academic and personal projects. The equipment in uCreate does not only have to be used for your university work - we love to see all the different, creative and wonderful projects our users get up to.
Equipment wise, the makerspace has 3D printers, CNC milling, virtual reality headsets, 3D scanners, electronics, green screen and pewter casting. For specifics on equipment available in the space, please see the equipment list.
Most of our equipment is self-service but staff are on hand to offer guidance and support. We have a range of users from complete beginners to the more advanced. All of our trainings are aimed at complete beginners so if you have always wanted to try making but didn't know how, come along to an induction and say hello.
