Studio Inductions

Any Edinburgh University staff or students who wish to gain access and be allowed to use the Makerspace workshop (Room 1.11) in the main library must first complete an in-person studio induction which covers information about the makerspace and essential health and safety guidance.
This induction does not go into any specific detail on how to use any particular piece of studio equipment.

Inductions last ~30 minutes and run every weekday at 14:30. You can book a place in one here

Optional induction follow up training

Every induction is immediatley followed by a 45 minute specific equipment training for which, by signing up to an induction, a space will automatically be kept for you (but your attendance is optional).

Please see our event booking calendar to determine the specific training on the day of your induction, but in general:

Monday Laser cutting or CNC Milling
Tuesday Soldering
Wednesday N/A
Thursday 3D Printing
Friday  3D Scanning: Einscan (Objects) or LIDAR (Environments)

Please note, for anyone who doesnt yet know much about the space or what they want to work with or for those whom are already very proficient with the equipment they wish to use and dont feel they need extra guidance, the follow-up training is optional and you do not have to attend.
However you cannot use the laser cutter or soldering equipment in the studio without completing the training.

Please note - Inductions and training booking places are currently limited due to Covid-19 restrictions
