What is Bambu Lab?
Bambu Lab is a 3D printer manufacture specialising in fast, multi-coloured filament printing. At uCreate, we have four Bambu Lab X1 Carbon printers. For comparisons of uCreate's different printers, see the choosing a 3D printer page.
The Bambu Lab X1 Carbon is a direct-drive single extruder printer that has an AMS (Automatic Material System) for setting up prints with multiple colours.
Key features:
- 256 x 256 x 256mm build volume.
- Multicolour printing.
- Fast printing.
- Automatic bed levelling.
- Bambu Studio slicing software.
- Failure detection.
Recommended use: Fast or multi-colour printing.
What could I use the Bambu Lab X1 Carbon printers for?
- Fast printing.
- Multi-colour PLA printing.
- Printing models with minimal or easy to remove supports.
Bambu Lab printers are great for multicolour printing but multicolour printing, comes some wasted filament, Bambu poop! See here for advise on how to reduce or reuse Bambu filament poop.
What materials can I use in the Bambu Lab printers?
At uCreate, all FDM 3D printers use PLA as their main material. The Ultimaker printers are the only printers at uCreate where users can use other materials, like ABS, TPU and nylon.
The Bambu Lab X1 Carbon printers take PLA filament with diameter 1.75mm. PLA is also used as the support material on the Bambu Lab X1 Carbon printers.
We use reusable spools for our Bambu Lab material. All filament available in the makerspace should have been pre-spooled by staff and is available on our filament shelves below the printers. If you find filament, not on a spool, please do not spool it yourself, speak to uCreate staff.
All materials are provided for free by uCreate, if you would like to bring in your own custom material, please email us at ucreate.makerspace@ed.ac.uk.
How do I access the Bambu Lab X1 Carbon printers?
In order to use the Bambu Lab printers, you will first need to be an inducted member of uCreate and have the 3D printer booked. If you have not yet been inducted, you can book an induction here.
If you have never 3D printed anything before, we recommend attending our 3D print training.
