Alignment: Alignment will make different scans in the same position.
Point Cloud: Data points that are collected from the object. They will be used to create a mesh.
Process
1. Select Fixed Scan Mode: Select Fixed Scan Mode from Scan Mode. Select new project unless you would like to continue an existing project.
2. Select Scan Mode: If you are using color camera and would like to get color information, select texture scan. Otherwise, select non-texture scan. If you don’t use color camera (or if the color camera is correctly plugged), you won’t be able to select texture scan.
3. Select Turntable Option: If you are using turntable, tick with turntable option and select turntable coded targets unless your object is covering markers on turntable. In that case, select markers if you stick markers on object and select features if the object has a unique geometry. If you are using turntable, you can set the turntable steps from the same menu to determine the number of scans.
4. Adjust Positioning: Place the tripod and adjust the distance and the angle in a way that the cross is on the object and sharp and if you are using turntable, scanner can see most of the coded targets on the turntable.
5. Adjust Brightness: In order to adjust brightness, click on the button under the camera display. To increase the brightness drag the button the right and to decrease brightness drag the button right. In the meantime look at the camera monitor on the screen. When you can see the shape of the object clearly and there are some red dots on the monitor, the brightness is adjusted well for scan. If your object has too dark and too bright features, you can select HDR. When you are happy with the settings, you can continue with scanning.
Too Dark Right Brightness Too Bright
6. Start Scanning: Click start button once to start scanning. The scanner will start scanning while turntable rotates automatically. The scanning process will stop when the number of steps determined in previous steps are completed. Until the scanning process is finished, you should never move the object or turntable. The scans will be automatically aligned. If you are making colored scan, you can see the scanned data without color from left hand side menu.
7. Clean Point Cloud: If there are points you would like to delete, click left mouse button by holding shift and select the area you would like to delete. You will see the selected area tuned to red. You can repeat this step to unselect the area. If you are not happy with the selection you can cancel it from the control menu on right hand side of the screen. You can delete the selected points from the same menu. When you are happy with the scanned data, you can click apply edit button to continue.
8. Relocate the Object and Start a New Scan: Since the scanner could not see all parts of the object (for instance the bottom of the object), it won’t achieve to scan every part. In order to scan the whole object, you should re-locate the object and start a new scan by clicking start button. By relocating objects, allow the scanner to see previously scanned area in order to achieve correct alignment.
9. Start Alignment: The software will automatically align different scans. If there is misalignment or you would like to make the alignment manually, you can make this by click alignment button. In opening window, you can drag and drop scans you would like to align. You can see different scans and aligned scan in different windows.
11. Select Same Spots in Different Scans: By holding shift click the same spots in both scans. You will see colored balls appeared on the points you clicked. You can edit the points if you make a mistake by dragging balls and dropping to a new location. In the alignment window, you will see the result of the scan. If you are happy with the alignment, you can accept the alignment and close the alignment window.
