Point Cloud: Data points that are collected from the object. They will be used to create a mesh.
Process
1. Select Handheld Rapid Scan Mode:
Select Handheld Rapid Scan Mode from Scan Mode. Select a new project unless you would like to continue an existing project.
2. Select Resolution:
Select the resolution according to how detailed data you would like to get. Higher resolution will provide more detailed data however, it will take more time the software to compute.
3. Select Colour Mode:
If you are using the colour camera and would like to get colour information, select texture scan. Otherwise, select the non-texture scan. If you don’t use the colour camera (or if the colour camera is correctly plugged), you won’t be able to select texture scan. The scanning window will be automatically opened.
4. Start Previewing:
Direct the scanner to the object. Press the start button on the handle of the scanner once and the preview will start automatically.
5. Adjust Distance:
Adjust the distance between the scanner and the object. By changing the distance between the scanner and the object, look at the distance bar on the left-hand side of the screen. Green bars indicate a good distance.
6. Adjust Brightness:
In order to adjust brightness, double click the start button (or press the brightness button on the left-hand side of the screen). To increase the brightness, click plus button and the decrease brightness press the minus button on the scanner. In the meantime, look at the camera monitor on the screen. When you can see the shape of the object clearly and there are some red dots on the monitor, the brightness is adjusted well for the scan. Double click the start button again to exit the brightness settings.
7. Start Scanning:
Click the start button once to start scanning and hold the scanner straight to the object. It is better to start with the surfaces that have distinct features since they will be used as a reference in the scanning process. Observe the distance bar during the scan in order to stay at the right distance. During the scan, you can press the start button to pause the scan and re-press the button to continue scanning.
8. Find the Track:
If the scanner lost its track, direct the scanner to the area first scanned and hold the scanner until the scanner finds its track. If the scanner still could not find the track, pause the scan and restart. When scanning is complete press the start button.
9. Clean Point Cloud:
If there are points you would like to delete, click the left mouse button by holding shift and select the area you would like to delete. You will see the selected area tuned to red. You can repeat this step to unselect the area. If you are not happy with the selection you can cancel it from the control menu on the top of the screen. You can delete the selected points from the same menu.
